Satopanth Sacred Lake Trek 2026

Satopanth Lake (Satopanth Tal) is a spiritual high-altitude glacial lake located at an elevation of 4,600 meters (15,092 ft) in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand Himalayas. It is covered with the majestic Chaukhamba, Neelkanth Peak, and Balakun Peak, the lake is one of the most sacred crystal clear water and breathtaking destinations in the Garhwal Himalayas.

The name “Satopanth” is derived from the Sanskrit words “Satya” (Truth) and “Panth” (Path), meaning “The Path of Truth.” The lake is triangular in shape and holds immense religious significance in Hindu mythology.

Religious Significance

According to Hindu beliefs, the three corners of the triangular lake represent the Trimurti:

  • Lord Brahma – The Creator
  • Lord Vishnu – The Preserver
  • Lord Shiva – The Destroyer

It is believed that these three deities meditate at the lake on auspicious occasions. Another legend states that the Pandavas, accompanied by a dog (believed to be Lord Yama), crossed this region on their final journey to heaven, known as the Mahaprasthan.
